1986 |
Orthomedics was established in September 1986 as
the exclusive distributor for Chas F. Thackray Limited in South
Africa. Thackray, a manufacturer of quality original
instruments, had acquired the exclusive rights to manufacture
and market the Charnley hip as designed by Sir John Charnley.
Head Office was set up in Cape Town with branches in
Johannesburg and Durban. |

1987 |
In September 1987, Orthomedics was appointed exclusive distributor for Johnson and Johnson
Orthopaedic Limited and Ulrich GmbH. This allowed us to broaden our product range, resulting in significant growth and market share gain.

1988 |
In 1988 we established ourselves as the leading orthopaedic company with market leadership
in joints and spines. Branches were established in Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein.

1989 |
In 1989 we continued to grow the business significantly and opened a branch in East London. In 1990 DePuy Inc. acquired Chas F. Thackray
and we were able to secure the distribution of the DePuy products in South Africa.

1995 |
In 1995 we were appointed exclusive agents for Mitek. In 1997 we continued to grow the business achieving leading market
shares in a growing number of specialities. We opened a branch in Namibia and appointed an agent in Zimbabwe.

1999 |
In 1999 we acquired ISO 9002 Certification and introduced a completely new computer system, an investment of about R3 million.
We now have all our branches on-line significantly improving all aspects of customer service and financial and stock control.
It has been our ability to retain a very loyal and committed staff that has really laid the platform for our success.

In February 2000, we were awarded the Medi-Clinic Supplier Of The Year 1999.
